Question 1

What does QuoteSift help researchers do?

Accepted Answer

QuoteSift helps researchers document sources, citations, and evidence related to a statement. This makes it easier to see what has been recorded and what remains unresolved. Documentation does not guarantee that a source is trustworthy or that a claim is true.

Question 2

Does finding a source or completing its citation verify a claim?

Accepted Answer

No. Finding a source or completing its citation does not itself verify the claim. It records where material can be found; whether that material supports the claim, and whether the claim is accurate, requires separate evaluation of the content and its context.

Question 3

Does an unresolved evidence trail mean a claim has been disproved?

Accepted Answer

No. An unresolved evidence trail is not a disproof. It means the trail documented so far has not resolved the question. A source that has not been located or confirmed does not, on its own, show that a claim is false.

Question 4

Does a located source mean the source is trustworthy?

Accepted Answer

No. Identifying or documenting a source does not guarantee that it is trustworthy. Researchers still need to consider the source’s origin, methods, context, and relevance to the claim.

Question 5

What can a completed citation tell me?

Accepted Answer

A completed citation can help identify the material being referenced. It does not establish that the material says what a claim attributes to it, that the material is reliable, or that the claim is true.
